Chamonix (elevation 1035m) is located in the Chamonix Mont Blanc ski area, with 166 kilometers of slopes and a maximum altitude of 3842m. It is a fairly extensive ski village with a long tradition of winter sports, it was the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Chamonix also boasts one of the most famous off-piste in the world: the Vallée Blanche that descends the Aiguille du Midi, one of the peaks surrounding Chamonix.
