Around the chalet:
La Tzoumaz' new telecabine, at 300 meters from the chalet, brings you from 1550m to 2350m on Savoleyres mountain in only 8 minutes. From here, you can ski down directly into Verbier, La Tzoumaz, or into the magnificent larger Quatre Vallees area. With 410 km of runs and 89 lifts, the 4 Vallees area is infinite. Its reliable snow cover and altitude (Mont Fort glacier 3330m) makes it one of the best skiing resorts in the world. Open from end of November until end of April, it links the resorts of La Tzoumaz, Verbier, Nendaz and Veysonnaz.
La Tzoumaz itself is famous for its family friendly skiing area, including a great ski-school with lessons for all levels and ages, and its immense 10km long sledge run from Savoleyres mountain down into La Tzoumaz. For the non-skiers, the area offers superb snow shoe trails to enjoy the surroundings. The village center has a few (ski-)shops, a supermarket and several restaurants.
Chalet Chaupine is most practical if you have a car. The 300 meter walk up the hill with ski gear to the ski lift is doable for adults but not easy for younger children. Good skiers can then ski back from the slopes to the chalet. If you prefer to take the car, the easiest is to drive to the large free parking above the beginners area, from where you step onto the slopes directly.
Chalet Chaupine and La Tzoumaz are also very nice in summer:
For some guests, the views, the green surroundings, the clear mountain air or lounging on the sun deck and garden around the chalet are enough to have a great summer vacation. For those who are looking to explore more of what the region has to offer, there are plenty of options. Here are some suggestions all based on great experiences we've had:
Short walks or serious hiking in the mountains:
Whether you would like a walk for an hour or for several days, the area offers many options for hiking. The Office du Tourisme in La Tzoumaz provides maps and brochures of several tours around the village and Verbier. For trips with a stay over in a cabin, for example Cabane de Mont Fort or Cabane de Louvie, it is recommended to reserve a place for the night in advance.
Tennis court in La Tzoumaz:
The picturesque La Tzoumaz tennis court is 5 minutes walking from Chalet Chaupine. It can be rented via the Office du Tourisme.
Golf in Verbier and Sion:
Playing golf in the mountains makes for a whole new experience, and with Verbier next door by car in summer, it is easy. Eighteen holes, or just practicing on the driving range: Golf Club Verbier or Golf Club Sion.
Adventure park in Sion and Aigle:
Trails high up in the trees - suitable and interesting for kids and teenagers (and parents) of all ages: Parc Aventure.
La Tzoumaz has the nearby swimming pool in the building of the ski lift. A bit further away, but worth the descent to the valley: the Spa in Saillon and Le Domaine des Iles, a very charming lake to spend a nice summer day.
The whole 4 Valley region is famous for its numerous mountain bike trails of all lengths and difficulty level. The Office du Tourisme in La Tzoumaz has many suggestions and can provide maps of the marked trails. No need to bring your own gear: Perraudin Sports offers quality equipment for rent.
Boating on Lake Geneva:
On Lake Geneva, (50 minutes by car), many boat rental options: power boats, canoes, pedalo, and more: Nauticloisirs in Villeneuve.
